Before working on projects in Japan with Netflix, or solo travelling to South East Asia to shoot personal projects, I was figuring out how to shoot movies on my brother’s old Canon camcorder as well as trying to learn how to edit on iMovie on my mum’s laptop.

Learning these key parts to filmmaking when I wasn’t even a teenager helped pave the way for me to focus more on creativity rather than the technical specificities later down the line.

I used to watch my older brother create short films with his friends in the suburbs of Virginia, before he eventually started involving me in them; I was nine years old starring in his movies. This prompted me to make my own stories, with friends but also on my own.

When I moved to England at the age of ten, I dove into the world of stopmotion. I used the vast amount of Legos we had in our family home to build small worlds to tell stories in, most of the stories ended up on Youtube - taken down by now and never to be seen again. But it taught me how to mix media, taking photos and creating sequences to then apply effects to afterwards. I still use some of what I learnt nowadays.

Before I ever owned a camera, I was shooting my films on my iPhone 6. A lot of the time, our family cat was the star of my films. He tended to portray this omnipotent being who could destroy anything with just his presence (I acted as his victims), but eventually I was lucky enough to get my first camera: the Sony a6000.

All the way until 2023 this a6000 was my one and only powerhouse. I took it with me everywhere, filming the most mundane and boring things ever in an attempt to glorify it with movie magic. This led me to making a film of what me and school friends got up to for each month for half a year. Although they lack in technique and cleanliness, the nostalgia they bring makes up for it.

June 2023 was when I finally retired my, now faulty, a6000. From here, I travelled to Bali, Indonesia with just the company of a new Sony FX30, shooting anything and everything with a new sense of drive. I carried this energy into an internship for a production company in Tokyo, Japan which led to a full time position, and then further into a freelance position for another company.

This is my story so far.
